THE LOG
A leylandii came down on the family driveway in Ramsey in winter 2024. It has been there since. That driveway is the start line. No trees were cut — the log was already there, and I am dragging it from my family home down the East coast.
1250 METERS: THE CARRY
Strand Street along the North Quay to the Old Castletown Road in Douglas; Here the log will be carried. At km 27, after ten hours of endurance, I will lift the 70kg weight onto my shoulders for over a kilometer—a test of raw stability through the town centre before returning to the road rig.
I carved a saddle for the log to fit on my shoulders, wrap some straps around it, lift it onto my shoulders and off I go.

Why drag a fallen tree?
The tree fell during a storm in Ramsey, becoming a symbol of natural loss. Dragging it 42km creates a physical, measurable connection to the Amazon rainforest—protecting what remains hidden from our direct view.
How difficult is the route?
The A2 coast road is relentlessly hilly, dropping into glens and climbing back out. The first third toward Laxey will hold some of the steepest hills, the second some of the longest and the third is no walk in the park either. Featuring the shoulder carry of the full 70kg log through town for over a Kilometer.
Where do my donations go?
100% of your donation goes directly to Junglekeepers to fund indigenous-led ranger patrols. All challenge costs are self-funded. 84 pence of every pound goes specifically to on-the-ground programs.
